EdenTree Investment Management

Understanding your needs – At EdenTree we focus on your charity’s primary needs: capital preservation, strong sustainable income, liquidity and excellent client servicing while considering your mission and reputation. We have aligned our investment expertise and ethos of SRI with those of our clients; we believe in Profit with Principles.

History – EdenTree investment Management has over 30 years’ experience of ethical, responsible and sustainable investing but our roots go back to 1887 with the founding of our parent company, Ecclesiastical Insurance Group, which is ultimately owned by the AllChurches Trust.  EdenTree launched one of the first ethical funds in 1988 and, upon noticing a gap in the market for equivalent charity funds, we launched the Amity Balanced Fund for Charities and the Amity Global Equity Fund for Charities. Since then, we have expanded our offering to manage segregated portfolios for larger charities. We work with charities who have investable assets from £1,000 to over £50 million! Today we manage £2.8bn (30 November 2018) on behalf of private clients, institutions and charities.

Performance – We continue to provide charities with the results they need. Charities most often ask us to compare performance against an inflation+ benchmark in order to comfortably achieve their income and capital preservation objectives. We are comfortable doing so and have continuously provided charities with the performance they need to fund their good works and strategic growth.

Securing Income – Charities rely on investment income to fund their good works. Our charity funds, and our process, target secure, reliable and attractive income streams so that your charity can feel secure in its goal setting.

Ethical Investing – We appreciate that charities are under increasing pressure to mitigate any reputational damage that may result from holding an investment that contravenes its beliefs. We help charities to align their investments and mission objectives and have been widely recognised for our pioneering approach to ethical and responsible investment, notably with the Moneyfacts Best Ethical Investment Provider of the Year (winner 2009 – 2018 inclusive).

Engagement – As custodians of our clients’ assets we believe in actively engaging with all companies in which we invest and vote at all meetings across all international markets.  We publish our voting report quarterly.

Client Servicing – We appreciate that understanding financial markets is not always straightforward and so we provide charities with opportunities to ask their questions about the market and pertinent ethical investing content through trustee training, workshops and seminars. We also provide our clients with quarterly valuations and a dedicated Charity Relationship Manager.

The Team – Our Charities Team is comprised of specialist Fund Managers, specialist Responsible and Sustainable Investment Analysts, dedicated Relationship and Administration managers and dedicated Business Development Managers. We consider good communication the most vital part of any client relationship and will always strive to provide our clients with a team of people they know and they can trust but most importantly, whom they can reach whenever they have questions.

Giving Back – As we are ultimately owned by a charity, the AllChurches Trust, charitable involvement is very important to EdenTree Investment Management. A large portion of our profits go towards funding their charitable work (Ecclesiastical Group successfully donated £50m to charity from 2013 – 2016, with EdenTree being a major contributor, and are on track to double this from 2016 to 2020). Furthermore, the EdenTree Community Fund is an EIM initiative to encourage and fund community enhancing projects across London.

Praise for our Approach – We were honoured to win the ‘Boutique Investment Manager of the Year’ at the 2018 Charity Times Awards. One judge commented, “This firm is clearly working extremely hard to advance charities’ overall mission through the investment process, whilst simultaneously seeking to make this planet a better place to be. It also has some fantastic references from clients.” We are delighted when our clients, our best champions, are satisfied with our services and will continue to work hard to deserve their trust and appreciation.
