    Formula 1’s unsung heroes

    The Grand Prix Trust has organised a number of Members Regional Meetings during 2018. The purpose of this was to try and alleviate social isolation for those members that lost touch with their former colleagues in the racing industry for various reasons.

    Perennial prepares for busy winter

    Perennial is preparing for a busy winter ahead as the roll-out of the government’s flagship benefits programme, Universal Credit, continues to cause confusion and frustration among those it will affect. An estimated 600,000 self-employed people will be worse off under Universal Credit and so the services team has increased its focus on support, training and preparation to help self-employed horticulturists, as well as single people and families, navigate the new system.

    NewstrAid has appointed a new CEO, Mike Mirams. Mike joined the Trustee Board of NewstrAid in April 2004 and was Chairman for six years from April 2012.

    26 charities receive donations from HSF

    Twenty-six Irish and UK charities received donations from The Hospital Saturday Fund at a special reception in London recently. In total, £100k/€110k was donated to the medical charities and organisations at the event, held at the Irish Embassy in London and hosted by Deputy Head of Mission, Mr Gerald Angley.

    New Focus of Grant Making Strategy

    The Trustees of The Hampstead Wells and Campden Trust have recently undertaken a review of its grant making policies and procedures. The main remit of the Trust is poverty alleviation, and the charity wants to ensure that all grant making is compatible with that remit. As a result there will be changes in some of the activities funded.

    Sporting Lunch raises half a million for GroceryAid

    Over 1,200 people attended the sold out GroceryAid Sporting Lunch on 2nd November 2018, raising a record £515k for the charity. This money will help fund the December financial grant payments that the charity makes to over 2,200 colleagues in need.

    Living fulfilled lives

    Steve Allen, Chief Executive says in the Friends of the Elderly annual review that the charity has refreshed its vision, mission and values to reflect the changes to the way people want and need care and support. They have begun to implement a plan for the future, which is to continue to provide high quality services and activities that are both personalised to individual needs and integrated with local communities.

    Hit-making songwriter Wayne Hector has become part of the PRS Members’ Fund as a patron. He will be a valuable asset to the Fund and a great ambassador.

  • Alex Ramamurthy -  Chief Executive Officer of the Care Workers Charity at the 2018 Charity Times Awards
    New CEO at the Care Workers Charity

    Richard Muncaster will succeed Alex Ramamurthy (pictured) as Chief Executive Officer of the Care Workers Charity with effect from 30th November 2018. Richard brings over 20 years’ experience in the voluntary sector, leading teams in a variety of income generation, marketing, programme delivery, volunteering, communications, policy and campaigning roles.

    Workplace Wellbeing

    ABS is committed to speaking openly about mental health issues and promoting positive mental health and wellbeing for those in the architectural community. In addition to practical support provided through their partnership with Anxiety UK, ABS is collaborating with RIBA on a pilot scheme to deliver wellbeing workshops in various locations, hosted by practices and delivered by presenters with a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field.

    Plan to protect veterans from extreme poverty

    7,000 Commonwealth veterans who served with the British Armed Forces will receive two meals a day through a programme delivered by the Royal Commonwealth Ex-Services League (RCEL). RCEL will receive a grant of £11.8 million over a five-year period to support the initiative, which spans four continents and more than 30 countries.
