ACO News July/August 2019

Hannah Page introduces the July and August 2019 edition of the newsletter, covering Volunteer Week, the 75th anniversary of D-Day and coverage of the ACO AGM at the beginning of June including the election of new board members.

Last month began with Volunteers’ Week from 1-7 June. With most charities relying on the work of volunteers, it was important to say thank you to the contributions millions make to the running of charities. Carers’ Week also began on 10 June to raise awareness for the help carers give to families and communities across the UK, while raising awareness of the challenges unpaid carers face.

It was the 75th anniversary of D-Day in June, and many ACO members who support the armed forces and veterans marked the occasion with special events. You can read more about some of the ways members offered remembrance in Member News.  Small Charity Week also ran from 17 – 22 June to raise the profile of smaller charities that are a huge help to many across the nation, provide free resources for charities, and encourage larger charities to provide help to smaller ones.

We had a fantastic turn out at our AGM on 12 June, where we welcomed two new trustees to the board Jodie Gill and our new Treasurer Thomas Bull. D’Arcy Myers also took over as the new Chair. We wish them every success in their new appointments, while also wishing our retiring Chair Kath Haines and retiring Treasurer Paul Jackson all the best for the future after doing fantastic jobs in their positions.
