Family Fund help sign story for World Book Day

A group of organisations, including Family Fund, have created a video of children’s favourite The Snail and the Whale using Makaton sign language. The Snail and the Whale is by former children's laureate Julia Donaldson, author of The Gruffalo, Stick Man and Room on the Broom.

The video features signing by over 30 families with disabled children, Makaton Charity ambassadors, much-loved children’s TV stars Justin Fletcher and Dave Benson Phillips, as well as staff from the organisations.

Chief Executive Cheryl Ward said: “Family Fund is here to make a practical difference to the lives of disabled children so we’re celebrating World Book Day with something that’s accessible and fully enjoyable for all. Raising a disabled or seriously ill child can often mean that families need extra support. This is why we provide grants for families on low incomes for items or experiences which will help improve everyday life for them and their child, whether that’s a new bed, sensory equipment or short break. We are delighted to produce this uplifting film with Makaton, Wouldn’t Change a Thing and Singing Hands and hope it brings smiles to the faces of as many children as possible.”
