ISM Members Fund offer new services

The Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM) Members Fund has launched face-to-face counselling as a part of a new range of services offered by the charity.

The new service, operated by Health Assured, is completely confidential and includes telephone counselling, face-to-face counselling (up to six sessions) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. To use the service, individuals will be able to call ISM’s 24-hour personal support and advice line, and speak with a qualified counsellor to determine what sort of support is appropriate. The service is being piloted between July and December 2019, with new services expected to be announced this autumn.

Deborah Annetts, Chief Executive of the Incorporated Society of Musicians, said: “Looking after your mental health is just as important as your physical health – and we know first-hand from our members the challenges out there for everyday musicians.

“The music sector has a high level of self-employed workers and in the largely unregulated gig economy, where short-term contracts or freelance work is prevalent, there are high levels of stress and anxiety. We hope that this new service not only helps our members take control of their mental well-being but contributes to the discussion of mental health in our enriching, but challenging, industry.”
