Modern Slavery

In March ACO attended a conference on modern slavery run by the National Crime Agency's Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Unit. There we discovered the role charities can play in helping to identify victims of modern slavery and help prevent fraud at the hands of gangs.

What is modern slavery and spotting the signs

For information on what is modern slavery, why it occurs, and how to spot the signs of modern slavery, this Guest blog written by the Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Unit for Turn2us provides a great background.

If you want to raise awareness of modern slavery within your own organisation, the Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Unit have partnered with STOPTHETRAFFICK for downloadable resources, including posters and victim-focused leaflets.

How to report modern slavery

If you suspect an individual is being exploited, you can call the police. In cases of immediate risk call 999, in all other cases call 101 clearly stating that you believe the individual is a victim of trafficking.

Alternatively, you can contact the Modern Slavery Helpline on  08000 121 700
