Superstar fundraising nurses meet comedian

Two nurses, selected randomly from a prize draw recognizing participants in the charity’s #10kForNurses fundraising campaign, were invited to join Russell Howard for a special recording of the Russell Howard Hour.

Melissa Heslop, second year student nurse at Birmingham City University, and Jenny Donnelly, Specialist Safeguarding Nurse for Child Exploitation, at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, met comedian Russell Howard in January. The nurses had the chance to meet Russell thanks to winning a prize draw run by Cavell Nurses’ Trust, the charity supporting nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants suffering hardship.

The winners of the meet and greet were randomly selected from fundraisers who did “10k their way” in the charity’s #10kForNurses fundraising campaign, which runs throughout each October to raise vital funds for nursing colleagues facing severe difficulties. Russell kindly donated the meet and greet to the charity as a prize. He has spoken strongly about his support of the NHS in the past and he admires the incredible dedication of doctors and nurses fighting against budget cuts and staff shortages.

Russell commented: “It was fantastic to meet Jenny and Melissa, it’s so wonderful that there is a charity dedicated to ensuring the UK’s nursing staff have somewhere to turn to in times of need. It’s also heart-warming to see nurses coming together and supporting each other”.
