Job Description

Who we are

The Trust is a grant-giving charity whose mission is to help individuals aged 60+ who live in St Albans District, are on a low income and have limited savings. Grant expenditure is around £200,000 a year. The Trust gives grants to individuals primarily in the form of items, including appliances, furniture and mobility items.

The Trust doesn’t have the infrastructure to employ staff, so staff are employed by Health & Independent Living Support (HILS), a large social enterprise based in Hertfordshire. The grants team includes the Charity Manager (this vacancy), a Grants Officer and a Grants Administrator (contractor). There is also a Charity Secretary (contractor).

What you’ll be doing

The Charity Manager is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Trust, leading its grant programmes and supporting the Trustee Board.

The role ensures appropriate and compassionate support for older people while maintaining strong governance, operational efficiency, effective partnerships and clear reporting to inform the Trust’s future direction.

This is a part time role of 28 hours a week over four days. It may occasionally require evening or weekend working, which is supported with TOIL.
