For more than a century, the Film and TV Charity, has been a lifeline for people working across the UK’s film, TV, and cinema industry. What began over 100 years ago as a support network for cinema workers has grown into something unique: the only charity dedicated exclusively to the wellbeing of behind the scenes workers.
From mental health support and financial assistance to community-building initiatives and efforts to make the industry more equitable, the Charity is here for everyone – freelancers and staff alike. Whether you’re a set designer, sound editor, animator, or marketing professional, the challenges of working in this vibrant yet demanding industry are real. Long hours, unpredictable schedules, and relentless creative pressure often come at a cost. For many, loneliness, stress, and financial strain aren’t occasional hurdles – they’re daily realities.
That’s why the Film and TV Charity exists: to make sure no one feels isolated or unsupported. Through free counselling, emergency grants, free legal advice, one-to-one bullying support, and opportunities that foster connections – including its free workspace for industry workers at Golden Square – the Charity provides hope and practical help when it’s needed most. These services don’t just change lives – they save them.
Alongside this immediate support, the Charity is working hard with leaders across the industry to implement better working practices and create a more sustainable, fair culture – one that puts workers first, creates space for creativity, and allows everyone to be their true selves. Next year, the Charity will launch the next phase of its Whole Picture Toolkit for mentally healthy productions, following months of development with partner organisations such as the BBC, ITV, UKTV, and Warner Bros. Discovery.
But today, the Charity urgently needs your help. The screen industries are facing unprecedented challenges, and demand for support has never been greater. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a tangible difference. Your contribution could fund a counselling session for someone struggling with anxiety, provide a grant to help keep a roof over someone’s head, or create networks that combat loneliness. Beyond immediate support, your donation helps drive real, impactful, and sustainable change from the top down.
Imagine a film, TV, and cinema industry where everyone feels valued, supported, and included – a place where creativity thrives because wellbeing is a priority. Together, we can make that vision a reality. By donating today, you’re not just giving money; you’re giving hope, light, and strength to those who bring stories to life on our screens.
The Film and TV Charity has been there for the industry for over 100 years. With your help, it can continue to be there for the next 100. Because no one should feel alone behind the scenes.
